The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) is the professional regulatory body for nurses and midwives in the UK. Their role is to protect patients and the public through efficient and effective regulation. The NMC sets standards of education, training, conduct and performance so that nurses and midwives can deliver high-quality healthcare throughout their careers. It has been a statutory body since 2002, and has a head office in London with over 400 members of staff.

Challenge

The Council faced the challenges of:

  • Upgrading their desktop estate from Windows© XP to a fully-supported operating system
  • Migration of around 650 desktops across multiple office locations
  • Needing to update as many of their core systems as possible
  • Reduce overall complexity of their desktop estate
  • Replace mis-matched and aged hardware
  • Needing to explore VDI options

Solution

NMC chose SysGroup to deliver an initial needs assessment and were put in charge of the full migration of the desktop estate. Their solution included:
