What was your very first job?
My very first job was as a store assistant at Wilkinsons during College / University. It was a great first job – sadly the company no longer exists!
If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?
If I could swap jobs for the day, it would be as a Hollywood movie director.
If you had to give a TED Talk on something random, what would it be?
Interesting question – especially given accountants are known for their interesting topics! It would probably be on the future of AI within finance, specifically how it will transform the finance function in the not-too-distant future. It’s a hot topic across SysGroup, but particularly relevant within finance where we are embracing AI and data tools to increase our productivity.
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning here?
This is a new industry for me, having previously worked within professional services and then the media industry. This means I have had a lot to learn over the past year (and a lot more to come I suspect!). I am particularly interested in learning how IT security develops over the next couple of years, especially with the introduction of AI into the mix.
If you could invent one office perk, what would it be?
Fortunately for me, I don’t have to invent it as it already exists. I love having a game of pool on our Manchester office pool table!
What’s the most exciting part of your role at SysGroup?
The finance team plays a central role in understanding how the business is performing and helping it plan for the future. To do this effectively we spend a lot of time with team members from across the organisation, helping them develop their business strategies. This is the best part of the job by far.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
My spare time is largely taken up by my two children, Jake and Isabelle. Between Jake’s football and Isabelle’s gymnastics, most days are accounted for! Aside from this, I am a big Liverpool FC fan, love reading books, watching films and don’t mind a few games of FIFA ultimate team!
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (work or life)?
Best advice I’ve ever received is to have fun and look on the brighter side.
