What was your very first job?
John Lewis in Reading. That was an eye opener into retail, especially when it came to theft/ fraud of returned items (I’m sure it’s improved since then…. hopefully).
If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?
A Film producer – the creativity of shaping a vision of a film from start to finish. I love running multiple projects at one time (keeping my brain busy) and the fulfilment of inspiring or bringing joy to others. I love movies. Being able to take a book or an idea and to turn it into something visual, I think is such a talent.
If you had to give a TED Talk on something random, what would it be?
Pigs – the misconception of pigs. Did you know that if all humans were eradicated from earth, pigs would stand the strongest chance of being among the last survivors in terms of animal species (especially in the UK). Not only are they incredibly intelligent, strong and resourceful they are pretty cute and emotional animals. I breed rare Berkshire pigs and if I do say myself, I’m much better at it than Jeremy Clarkson. 😉
What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning here?
Technology and AI tooling for internal purposes. Give me a new tool to play around with and I’m a happy girl. Happy to give feedback too. 😊
If you could invent one office perk, what would it be?
‘Bring your hobby to work’ day – employees showcase passions (music, art, baking) in mini workshops. We get to try and learn something new. OR I like the idea of an office chef, I think Google actually do this already? Not only could you be more adventurous and try different things but it would be more nutritious. I probably wouldn’t leave the office either. Ha!
What’s the most exciting part of your role at SysGroup?
As cliché as it is, it’s the people. That human connection. Being able to be there and watch your co-workers best moments (promotions, milestones and recognition) but to support them through the challenging times too. I like that my role at Sysgroup brings meaning and impact. No two days are the same, that is for sure. I’m excited to see what is next for Sysgroup and being apart of that growth with everyone here.
When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?
Outside of work, I live for adventure. I make it my mission to go somewhere new most weekends whether it’s a hidden spot nearby or a completely different city. Each trip gets its own little keepsake: a fridge magnet. It sounds small, but those magnets are like a scrapbook of memories that remind me why exploring and saying ‘yes’ to new experiences is so important.
When I’m not out collecting magnets, you’ll usually find me at home in the evening with a good horror, thriller, or documentary on in the background while I tackle the last bits of admin. And recently, I’ve spiced things up with weekly theme dinners, picking a country or culture and trying out new recipes. It’s my way of travelling through food while planning the next real adventure. It keeps life varied, fun, and full of stories to share.
What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (work or life)?
Nothing is permanent – so if things are going good, enjoy it. If things are going badly, don’t stress too much about it. It will change.
