Meet SysGroup

Hi, my name is…

Isobel Bowdery.

As SysGroup’s Head of Marketing, Isobel is passionate about combining creativity with strategy. She loves finding new ways to connect the brand with people and tell stories that feel real.

Learn more about her in this Q&A:

What was your very first job?

My first job was as a hostess at Beluga, a restaurant in Cape Town. It was busy, full of energy, and taught me a lot about people. I learned how important it is to make others feel welcome and listened to. That experience still shapes how I approach teamwork and communication today.

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?

I’d love to swap with someone in Customer Success. Talking directly with customers would be so valuable. Hearing what they love and what challenges they face would give me a better idea of how to shape our marketing projects and campaigns. It’s the kind of insight you can’t get from a spreadsheet.

If you had to give a TED Talk on something random, what would it be?

I’d talk about the power of hypnotism. After a traumatic experience back in 2015, I tried hypnotherapy to help with my PTSD. It completely changed my outlook. It showed me how strong the mind can be and how healing can come from the most unexpected places.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to learning here?

Honestly, everything! It’s only been a couple of months, but I’ve already learned so much from the team. Everyone brings such unique skills and ideas. I’m especially excited to learn more about the technical side of what we do, so I can better understand how to tell our story to customers.

If you could invent one office perk, what would it be?

An onsite masseuse. I was spoilt in my first internship at L’Oreal. They had these incredible chairs and these wellness areas where you could take a midday nap. I also heard that Miranda Kerr hired an actual masseuse for her team at Kora Organics, so I really don’t think it’s beyond our budget (maybe our finance team would disagree…)  A quick massage during the day would help everyone relax and recharge.

What’s the most exciting part of your role at SysGroup?

For me, it’s shaping how our brand connects with people. I love blending creativity with clear strategy. It’s also amazing to work with such talented people who really care about what they do. My favourite moments are when we all come together to share ideas and build something great.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

Being outdoors. This year I made th decision to move out of NW London into a quaint town in Buckinghamshire. No regrets. I love spending time outdoors with my daughter. We go exploring, find new paths, and make the most of fresh air. I’m also deep into wedding planning at the moment, which is fun and creative in a different way. Travel is another passion. This year I’ve been lucky enough to visit South Africa, Denmark, France and Scotland. Each trip has left me feeling inspired and recharged!

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (work or life)?

You don’t always need to reinvent the wheel. Repurpose, repurpose, repurpose. There’s so much value in what already exists. The key is learning how to see it differently and make it work for you. Also a previous manager once scolded me for sending emails on a Sunday which was a great lesson in life/work balance so I guess my other one would be “set up boundaries or you will be set up for burnout.”

Quick Fire

Beverage of choice: Coffee during the day, PSL in our current season. Izzgroni during the night. It’s basically my take on a negroni with my name in it – go figure I’m in marketing. You double the Aperol quantity than gin/vermouth.

Favourite Holiday Destination? Cape Town!

Dog or Cat? Dog

One word that describes you best? Positive
