Meet SysGroup

Hi, my name is…

Jonathan Mitchell.
He is our RMM Administrator here at SysGroup, and he has been with us for four years. In that time he has played a vital role in keeping our systems running smoothly and supporting the wider team with his expertise.
Learn more about him in this Q&A:

What was your very first job?

Working for the D.H.S.S (pre-curser to the DWP ) printing Giro cheques for Sickness Benefit claims.

If you could swap jobs with anyone for a day, who would it be?

Ken “Pooch” Van Druten, he’s the sound engineer for Iron Maiden’s live shows and an absolute master of his craft.  I dabbled a bit with sound engineering in my youth, and I’m a huge Iron Maiden fan, so putting the two things together would be a dream day for me.

If you had to give a TED Talk on something random, what would it be?

I’d give a talk on the ways in which D&D can improve both your home and work life.  I’ve been playing D&D since the mid 1980s and it’s one of my favourite ways to spend time with friends.  Playing D&D helps with problem solving, teamwork, maths, creative thinking, planning and a host of other very useful life skills.  It’s also amazing fun.

What’s one thing you’re looking forward to here at SysGroup?

We have just moved our RMM system to a new portal, which will allow us to add lots of new features and plugins. I’m looking forward to learning about them and what they can do for both customers and colleagues.

If you could invent one office perk, what would it be?

A room with a nice comfy bed so that people could go for a quick nap after lunch.

What’s the most exciting part of your role at SysGroup?

It’s a cliché to say this, but every day is different.  I never know exactly what surprises might be in store when I walk in to the office, and that’s what keeps it all fresh.

When you’re not working, how do you like to spend your time?

Spending time with family and friends, reading, listening to music (the louder the better), playing on my Xbox and going to gigs.

What’s the best piece of advice you’ve ever received (work or life)?

As long as you’ve tried your best then it’s OK to fail sometimes.

Quick Fire

Beverage of choice:        Black coffee

Favourite Holiday Destination? Rome or Edinburgh

Dog or Cat?            Definitely cats

One word that describes you best?      Nerd
