Tech Ops

Senior Technical Architect

We are looking for a Senior Technical Architect to be responsible for supporting our sales team to close new business that comes from our existing customer base as well from new opportunities.

Job Description

You will form an integral part of the SysGroup Professional Services Team that report into the CTO. This role will be responsible for supporting our sales team to close new business that comes from our existing customer base as well from new opportunities. It will involve ensuring that all opportunities that are selected have an appropriate technical design created with an associated statement of work (SOW). You will lead a small team of Junior Technical Architects and you will ensure that all opportunities are allocated appropriately and delivered to agreed deadlines. You will be comfortable mentoring the Junior Technical Architects and ensuring that designs they create in response to new business opportunities are appropriate and correctly specified.

You will work on a range of projects that will span our existing solutions as well as leading on building reference architectures for new solutions. Technically you will be comfortable with virtual environments, hyperconverged environments and Cloud technologies. You will understand the connectivity options that sit within the SysGroup portfolio, Enterprise level Networking and how to specify virtual and physical environments for a range of customers. You will be supported by a high-quality Service Delivery Team that has deep expertise in the technologies we deploy and manage on behalf of our customer set. You will be comfortable working on detailed technical designs, producing high level reference architectures that have inevitable ambiguities as they are refined into hardened solutions and in writing response documents that can be used by the sales team to close new opportunities.

Key Skills

  • To be successful in this role you will be able to work with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs that leverage the strengths of our SysCloud platform. You will be able to work in an iterative and agile way to align the needs of users with the technical solution being proposed.
  • You will be able to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be able to translate technical concepts so that they can be understood by all stakeholders.
  • You will be able to guide decision making so that you can resolve technical disputes across varying levels of complexity so that there is alignment in the final solution being proposed.
  • You will play an integral role in the SysGroup Technical Design Authority (TDA) working with Head of Service Delivery to ensure all solutions are peer reviewed and quality assured. As part of the involvement in the TDA you will understand the critical role of IT governance processes so that a high quality of service can be assured to all stakeholders at all times.
  • You will be able to look beyond the immediate technical problems being articulated and identify wider implications. You can ‘zoom out’ in 3 dimensions: finding out and understanding relevant historical context and future impact; understanding how current work fits in broader contexts and strategies; and looking for deeper underlying problems that can be translated into further business opportunities.
  • You will be able to work strategically - firstly to help customers set strategy and then to refine and challenge existing roadmaps, building new roadmaps and visions that ensure customers buy into the SysGroup vision, so they feel comfortable working with us on their most challenging business problems.

As we build our team of Technical Architects you will be happy to work in our Newport office so we can move rapidly as we build out our capabilities. There is of course flexibility in the role with travel to customers included and the flexibility for home working.

About You

Ideal candidates for our new roles will live within commuting distance of our recently refurbished Newport office which sits on the same campus as the Vantage Data Centre – a critical datacentre node in the digital operational capacity of western Europe and in which SysGroup hosts and manages significant infrastructure for a range of customers.

We are looking for people who want to make a name for themselves in the IT industry and want to be part of the growth journey of SysGroup. You must be comfortable with working at pace and dealing with the inevitable ambiguity that comes with rapid growth and development. Finding ways to get things done is paramount. We have five core company values that underpin all we do:

  • Love what you do
  • Own it
  • Work smart and together
  • Delight your customer
  • Be Bold

To be part of our journey for all our new roles you will need to understand the principles that underpin Cloud – We often talk about the NIST principles as the foundation for this understanding. Furthermore, you will understand what an Enterprise environment can offer to organisations as they develop their IT capability.

Our Tech Ops team is critical for us. You will be joining a team of dedicated and hardworking individuals who care deeply about what they do and who care deeply about giving our customers the best possible service. We often go the extra mile to deliver the necessary service level and want to work alongside people who will also go that extra mile. As part of this approach to our work, self-awareness and vulnerability are also key traits we look for in the people in our teams. We need people who can build the right level of work life balance by understanding the cadence of projects and other activities so that our projects are delivered on time coupled with that healthy work life balance.

Benefits

In addition to a very competitive base salary (which will be dependent on experience) we also offer:

  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • An additional half a day holiday on your birthday
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension scheme
  • Employee discounts
  • Cash plan medical care
  • PMI
  • Quarterly prize draw
