Tech Ops

Junior Technical Architect

We are looking for a Junior Technical Architect to create complete technical proposals from an initial opportunity that has been identified by the sales team.

Job Description

You will be part of the SysGroup Professional Services Team and part of a small team of Technical Architects. You will be supported and mentored by the Senior Technical Architect. To be successful in this role you will need a broad range of technical skills that will allow you to work across Connectivity, Networking and Infrastructure design. You will have a natural ability to translate between technical concepts and non-technical language to enable high quality conversations.

You will be able to create complete technical proposals from an initial opportunity that has been identified by the sales team. This will involve the following:

  • The ability to undertake structured analysis of technical issues and translate into technical designs that describe a solution
  • Identify subsidiary opportunities that arise from the initial analysis and present those positively as additional opportunities
  • look for opportunities to collaborate with colleagues and reuse existing technical components to reduce time and cost of designs

Key Skills

  • To be successful in this role you will be able to work alongside the Senior Technical Architect and with business and technology stakeholders to translate business problems into technical designs that leverage the strengths of our SysCloud platform. You will be able to work in an iterative and agile way to align the needs of users with the technical solution being proposed.
  • You will be able to bridge the gap between technical and non-technical stakeholders. You will be able to translate technical concepts so that they can be understood by all stakeholders.
  • You will be able to work as part of a team that helps guide decision making and resolves potential areas of ambiguity.
  • You will understand the critical role of IT governance processes so that a level and quality of service can be assured to all stakeholders at all times. You will be able to follow current processes and be prepared to be involved in developing and refining processes as the organisation evolves.
  • You will be able to look beyond the immediate technical problems being articulated and identify wider implications. Working with the Senior Architect you can ‘zoom out’ in 3 dimensions: knowing relevant historical context and future impact; understanding how current work fits in broader contexts and strategies; and looking for deeper underlying problems that can be translated into further business opportunities.
  • You will be able to work to an agreed strategy, interpreting and implementing against the strategy where necessary.

As we build our team of Technical Architects you will be happy to work in our Newport office so we can move rapidly as we build out our capabilities. There is of course flexibility in the role with travel to customers included and the flexibility for home working.

About You

Ideal candidates for our new roles will live within commuting distance of our recently refurbished Newport office which sits on the same campus as the Vantage Data Centre – a critical datacentre node in the digital operational capacity of western Europe and in which SysGroup hosts and manages significant infrastructure for a range of customers.

We are looking for people who want to make a name for themselves in the IT industry and want to be part of the growth journey of SysGroup. You must be comfortable with working at pace and dealing with the inevitable ambiguity that comes with rapid growth and development. Finding ways to get things done is paramount. We have five core company values that underpin all we do:

  • Love what you do
  • Own it
  • Work smart and together
  • Delight your customer
  • Be Bold

To be part of our journey for all our new roles you will need to understand the principles that underpin Cloud – We often talk about the NIST principles as the foundation for this understanding. Furthermore, you will understand what an Enterprise environment can offer to organisations as they develop their IT capability.

Our Tech Ops team is critical for us. You will be joining a team of dedicated and hardworking individuals who care deeply about what they do and who care deeply about giving our customers the best possible service. We often go the extra mile to deliver the necessary service level and want to work alongside people who will also go that extra mile. As part of this approach to our work, self-awareness and vulnerability are also key traits we look for in the people in our teams. We need people who can build the right level of work life balance by understanding the cadence of projects and other activities so that our projects are delivered on time coupled with that healthy work life balance.

In addition to a very competitive base salary (which will be dependent on experience) we also offer:

  • 25 days holiday (plus bank holidays)
  • An additional half a day holiday on your birthday
  • Salary Sacrifice Pension scheme
  • Employee discounts
  • Cash plan medical care
  • PMI
  • Quarterly prize draw
